Three Exciting and Educational Pennsylvania Road Trips

Three Exciting and Educational Pennsylvania Road TripsAs the summer wears on, it's likely you'll see plenty of people heading out of state and even out of the country for family vacations. If you are looking to get away yourself, there's really no reason you have to leave the beautiful state of Pennsylvania. There are plenty of fun and interesting things to see and do right here in our home state, and if you haven't seen them all, you are missing out on some spectacular family experiences.

Wondering where to go for your vacation in the Keystone state? Try one of the destinations below! These cities are tried-and-true destinations that we're sure your family will love.

Just a few hours to the east lies the incredible city of Gettysburg. This relatively small place holds an enormous wealth of history that never ceases to fascinate visitors. From the haunting Gettysburg battlefield to the many historical museums and experiences offered in the area, Gettysburg is the ideal place to visit if you have any interest in expanding your knowledge of the Civil War.

After you're finished exploring the historical sites in this rich city, consider taking a ghost tour or heading up to Hershey for a day trip to Chocolate World or Hersheypark. Either way, your family is sure to have a blast and return home with heads full of historical knowledge.

The Great Lakes are truly a sight to behold. If your family has yet to visit one of the Great Lakes, this summer is the perfect time to take a trip to Erie.

Erie is an adorable town that sits right on the coast of Lake Erie and offers a wide variety of things to do and see, an ideal choice for families with varied interests. For outdoor enthusiasts, Presque Isle State Park offers opportunities for hiking, fishing, and biking. This park is also the perfect place to experience the big lake, as it is home to a variety of beaches. Younger children will love the local children's museum, as well as the amusement park and indoor water park in the area.

Art and history museums dot the city, offering plenty of learning opportunities, and the Bicentennial Tower gives visitors a perfect view of the city.

Everyone knows that Philadelphia is a top tourist destination in Pennsylvania, but have you been there yourself to see what all the hype is about? If not, it's high time you scheduled a trip to the City of Brotherly Love.

The Liberty Bell, historic buildings, Philadelphia Museum of Art, and Franklin Institute are all obvious must-sees while in Philly. However, there are dozens of lesser-known attractions that you will definitely want to check out as well. For instance, the Please Touch Museum is the perfect place to take young children. Philadelphia's Magic Gardens is another wonderful thing to see, and for those with little ones, the Smith Memorial Playground and Playhouse is absolutely incredible. Finally, for those adventurers who are in search of some natural beauty, the Forbidden Drive Trail is an excellent place to spend an afternoon.

As you can see, there is plenty to do right here in our own amazing state, making it incredibly easy to plan an impromptu road trip and get away from it all with the family. The best part? The destinations on this list only scratch the surface of what there is to do in Pennsylvania.

So what are you waiting for? Get out a notepad, sit down at the computer, and start doing some research of your own.
