SA:Why did you choose to work at Sewickley Academy?
GB: I loved the kindness everyone showed me and the feeling of community when I first visited Sewickley Academy. This was the perfect opportunity for me to be closer to family while continuing to do what I love at such a wonderful school!
SA: What motivated you to become a teacher or to work in education?
GB: Working with children is my absolute favorite thing! I was able to help at a daycare when I was younger so I've always known I wanted a career that involved working with children. Watching their eyes light up when they discover something new and seeing them overcome challenges is the best feeling in the world.
SA: What do you enjoy most about teaching or working in education?
GB: I love to watch my students get excited about what we are learning and have the desire to explore it further.
SA: What is the most important life lesson you want your students to learn in your class(es)?
GB: I want my students to always be kind and remember that showing kindness to others is just as rewarding as receiving it from someone else. I also want my students to know that taking risks and making mistakes is sometimes the best way to learn and grow.
SA: How do you keep current with the subject areas you cover?
GB: I always devote time each year to a new topic that will help me grow as an educator – whether it is attending a workshop, reading a book, or being involved in webinars. I've recently been listening to podcasts on various educational topics.
SA: Favorite book as a child?
GB: Any of the Amelia Bedelia and Berenstain Bear books!
SA: Favorite book as an adult?
GB: Too many to list! I just finished a great book, but I say that about all the books I read!
SA: What are some of your interests/hobbies?
GB: I love to be outside, whether it's relaxing at the park with my dog or going on a bike ride. I am an avid traveler and love exploring new places, meeting new people and experiencing different cultures. I also enjoy cooking and baking!
SA: What are you most looking forward to this school year?
GB: Working and growing with my students and colleagues! I am excited about rejoining a co-teaching team and look forward to that partnership.
