Holiday Happenings in Pittsburgh

Holiday Happenings in PittsburghNothing makes the holiday season quite so wonderful as all of the amazing sights, sounds, and events around town. Pittsburgh is one of the very best places to be during the holiday season due to its incredible lineup of holiday events and activities. Why not take advantage of a few of these events this year and make some lasting memories with your family?

Here are some of our favorite holiday happenings in the Pittsburgh area:

Peoples Gas Holiday Market

This adorable, European-style market brings all the quaint charm of Christmases past to the here and now. Marvel at the handcrafted and imported gifts sold by local vendors and delight in all the wonderful tastes and aromas of the holiday foods being sold. Not only are you sure to find a gift or two for those you love at this market, you will likely find an item or two for yourself as well.

In addition to all of the wonderful vendors and the charming atmosphere, the Peoples Gas Holiday Market also gives children a chance to visit their holiday hero at Santa's House. All visitors will be given a chance to sit and chat with Santa, and for a $5 donation patrons get a picture with the big guy. All donations go to feeding hungry children this holiday season.

The market is open Mondays through Thursdays from 11:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m., Fridays and Saturdays from 11:00 a.m. –9:30 p.m., and Sundays from 11:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. from now until December 23rd

MassMutual Pittsburgh Ice Rink

No winter is complete without at least one ice skating session, and you can find a fabulous outdoor skating rink right here in Pittsburgh at PPG Place. This rink was updated in the 2015–2016 season and is now bigger than ever - it's 67% larger than the Rockefeller Center ice rink! So what are you waiting for? Grab some friends, strap on your skates, and get ready for some fun!

The ice rink is open seven days a week (including holidays), but hours vary, so be sure to call before you head out. Admission is $8 for adults and $7 for children, and skate rentals are an additional $4. Discount days are available though, so check out their website if you'd like to save a few bucks.

Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre's The Nutcracker

Don your best holiday apparel and get ready to be transported into an incredible Christmas dream. The dancers from Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre (PBT) are simply incredible, always astounding audiences with awe-inspiring feats. The company's production of The Nutcracker is the perfect example of their talent, and you will be amazed as you are whisked away into their world of wonder without a single word.

The Nutcracker runs from December 1st to December 27th. Ticket prices begin at $28, and the production is appropriate for people of all ages, making this the perfect family outing.

Highmark First Night

Ring in the New Year with a celebration you and your family won't soon forget. With performers galore and a parade and fireworks display to boot, you definitely won't be bored at Highmark First Night in downtown Pittsburgh. To top off this incredible evening, be sure to see the event's headliner, the Nigel Hall Band.

Buttons are used in place of tickets for this event and cost $10 each. Buttons are on sale now, so be sure to grab yours soon!

Whether you are looking to watch in admiration as the Sugar Plum Fairy flits across the stage, glide across a sheet of ice to cheery music, or ring in the new year with a bang, Pittsburgh has something for you and your family! Be sure to celebrate the season by attending a few of these wonderful events and spreading the magic and cheer of the holidays.
